Hello, fellow goldfish enthusiasts!
As many of you know, I have 4 fancy goldfish. Jupiter is sick with fungus and dropsy. He's getting daily salt baths that seem to be working. He's in a 5.5 gallon quarantine tank. His home isn't permanent. Gumball currently has ich. He lives in a 20 gallon with some other tropicals (also temporary!) and before I move him to my new 60 gallon, I'm curing the ich outbreak. Andy and Analie are going to be moved to the 60 gallon tonight. So eventually all of the goldies will be in a 60 gal and all the tropicals will be in the 20 gal. thanks for reading!

As most of you probably know, one of my Oranda goldfish is called Jupiter. He's been sickly since the day I got him, a few weeks ago, mainly due to human mistakes on my part. I got him the day he was shipped to the pet store, and the stress really made him sick.
Jupiter's been in a 5.5 gallon tank. While this would never be adequate to house a goldfish long term, it's served as a good quarantine tank for Jupiter. Once he makes a full recovery, he'll be moved into my 20 long which I'm setting up tomorrow (It will have an already cycled filter, along with a new one.) with two other juvie orandas (Andy and Analie). However, that's not what we're talking about today! Jupiter is currently sick with dropsy, and he has a fungus covering his body. After a few days of having it, I started treating him for the fungus with Pimafix. Two days later, he got dropsy. So tonight, I did his first salt bath. A salt bath simply consists of putting aquarium salt into a bowl and dissolving it, and letting the fish "bathe" in it. This can help replenish electrolytes in the fish and it can really help illnesses such as dropsy. I thought Jupiter had died in his salt bath. He was floating on his side at the top of the water, and he wasn't moving his fins. So I deemed him dead. I went to tell my parents, and as they were coming in to bury him (I can't handle looking at dead fish) he was actually alive! This was amazing considering he was "dead" two minutes ago. I plan on doing salt bath treatments for the next few days. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and can be moved into the new 20 long. If you've read my last post, you got to meet all five of my goldfish. Sadly, Bugsy the fancy goldfish has passed away. He was perfectly healthy the day before, but then, when I came home, I found him stuck to the filter intake, with my algae eater eating him. It was really a horrific sight, especially since I wasn't expecting it. He has been buried, and a heart stone has been made. Rest In Peace.
I love teaching others about how to care for goldfish, and I also have 5 goldfish of my own! Let's meet the crew.
There's Jupiter, Gumball, Bugsy, Andy, and Analie. All 5 goldfish are my favorite variety, orandas! Gumball has a big wen and he's also my biggest fish. I got him a couple of days ago! He is so cute! Jupiter has always been sensitive when it comes to health problems, but he loves food and is generally calm. Bugsy loves exploring his tank, and is surprisingly slim-bodied for being an oranda! Analie has such a pretty red color and some white specks on her tail. She's so pretty! Andy is the color of orange juice, which is why I picked him, and he's best friends with Analie! I hope you all have enjoyed learning about my fancy goldfish and their unique personalities! Do you have any goldfish? If so, leave them in the comments! |
